When we were called in by the carpenters connect* project in Newham, It was Initially to provide advice and solutions for encoding video program material for video on demand servers in use on the project. When we were made aware that the Project leader/project instigator Richard Stubbs, had looked at multi cast systems to provide digital terrestrial television signals over the local area network, but had found them to be prohibitively expensive. And had given up on the idea. We set about providing A cost effective solution to do the job.

After research and development carried out by us the system is in place it provides “freeview” digital terrestrial channels over the local area network and has proved to be a great hit with all the residents on the project.

*(carpenters connect is a pilot project overseen by the London borough of Newham, on a housing estate in Stratford. Around 500 homes are connected to a local area network and via set-top-boxes are able to access video on demand programming, web access, thin client windows desktop with office applications and a local web and email system for resident’s news and now freeview over IP etc.) We were also involved in providing advice and coders to build the interface front end and web mail interface on this project
